FAQs

Answers to your most frequently asked questions.

Do the kids need their own surfboard for camp/lessons?

No, we provide a variety of soft top surfboards for all of the students! We do recommend kids have their own soft top surfboards so that we can teach them how to use their own equipment for when camp ends.

What does my child need to bring for surf camp?

Kids will need to bring their own towel, bathing suit, sun screen, water, and a snack. We recommend that kids have their own wetsuits for when the water is cold, but we do have some community suits available at a first come, first surf basis!

Where can we buy a beginner surfboard or wetsuits?

Surfers Supplies at 3101 Asbury Ave. in Ocean City, NJ is the best surf shop around to get all of your surfing needs! They have a great selection of surfboards and wetsuits for the kids. Tell them Ventnor Surf School sent you.

How many instructors do you have in camp?

We have 1 instructor for every 3 students in camp. This is an excellent ratio for your child to catch the maximum amount of waves and get assistance and advice during camp as well as for safety purposes.

Does your surf school offer camp to children with special needs?

Yes! We have had many experiences with special needs students surfing, who have had a blast! We request advance notice and recommendations for care so that we can prepare accordingly. Information can vary from camper to camper, and we look forward to working with you to learn about how we can work with your camper.

Am I able to reschedule?

Yes, we are flexible and allow for rescheduling if there is availability on another week of camp. Please get in touch with Shaun and provide us with at least 48 hours notice in advance of your scheduled camp week. We will utilize the deposit you paid when registering for camp toward your rescheduled dates. We will kindly request that you settle any remaining balance when rescheduling to your new dates with Shaun.

What happens if my camper doesn’t show up for camp?

Oh no! First and foremost, we hope everything is alright if something like that happens, and we hope that you are in communication with Shaun, as communication is always the first line of defense. Next, for one missed day, we have Friday as a makeup day. Suppose your camper misses the entire week of camp without providing prior notice of at least 48 hours. In that case, unfortunately, we are unable to refund your payment for camp, as we had expected your camper and had to pay our instructors for their time in anticipation of your camper’s arrival. Communication with Shaun is extremely important so that we can offer the spot to other campers and ensure safety for all participants.

Do you hold camp if it is raining?

Yes! We hold camp in the rain as long as the weather cooperates. We do not hold camp if the wave conditions are unsafe, and this determination is made by the instructors every morning. If postponed or canceled, all parents will be notified in the morning, and we will use the Friday of the same week for make-ups.
